Fountain of Youth

October 21st, 2009

Many women are in constant search of the fountain of youth. There are countless arrays of beauty products making claims to bring the aging process to a halt. You name the problem and there are products designed to combat it. Yet while so many spend fruitless hours and dollars trying to cover and reduce the outward signs of aging not many take the time to tackle it from the inside. There is no better prescription to reduce aging than through a daily regime of diet and exercise. What you put into your body inevitably shows up on the outside. Things like fat deposits, puffiness, dark circles, dry skin, brittle nails, a poor completion, and fine lines to mention a few are all exacerbated by poor diet. There is nothing better than a diet rich in fruits and vegetables to combat free radicals and other environmental toxins, not to mention the effects on overall health and appearance are tremendous.

Equally as important and beneficial in combating aging is strength training. Many women in particularly avoid strength training for fear they will look bulky and instead spend countless hours performing cardiovascular exercises. While the benefits of cardiovascular exercises should not be disregarded, it should not be the only focus of a workout. The fear and mentality of becoming bulky from strength training is very frustrating to me as a trainer, as nothing could be further from the truth. You have to lift a lot of weight to become bulky. Most important to note is an individual will never achieve the same results from cardio exercises as they will from strength training. Lean muscles make the body tighter and more importantly stronger. After the age of 30, individuals start to lose a pound a muscle per year. This is scary as muscle boosts metabolism. Sadly, as muscle is lost weight is gained. That is why so many individuals find as they age the bulge becomes more difficult to fight. Add a few days of strength training with kettlebells to your workout schedule and the results will blow you away.

J. Johnston aka JJ

October 21st, 2009

One of the great things about Renegade Kettlebell training is that it can be done nearly anywhere. This means it can also be learned anywhere. Personally I have conducted Kettlebell training sessions in the privacy of a client’s home, my own home, at a park, at the beach, in parking lots at various work sites, and yes occasionally even at a gym. Do not feel that you need to join a gym to learn and train with Kettlebells. It makes an excellent tool for home based workouts.
Any and all the trainers affiliated with the site are highly talented in “teaching” you the right way to not only work with kettlebells but to aid in expanding your knowledge base across the entire fitness spectrum. I urge to contact one close to you and experience the difference between a Renegade Trainer and the rest.
My name is J. Greg Johnston aka JJ aka “The Crew Guy” and I operate out of Bear Delaware.
If you are in proximity please contact me as I do have a limited number of evening openings as well as selective weekends still available for Fall/Winter 2009.
Private, group or class instruction is not a problem.

My HIPS Don’t Lie!

October 20th, 2009

Coming from an athletic background and being involved in various sports has allowed me to “feel” the various “meshing points” within movement patterns. The kettlebell gives you the freedom to express the movement.

The foundation begins within the hips…….the center of movement generation.

“Feel It” and believe it.

Kettlebells For Women

October 20th, 2009

Many women are intimidated by kettlebells due to two factors, the weight of the bell and their lack of knowledge regarding proper lifting techniques.  After attending a certification class held by John Davies, I was pleasantly surprised to discover how relatively easy and fun the kettlebells are to use.  As far as the weight of the bell, a moderately heavy bell becomes simple to lift when proper lifting mechanics are employed.  It is extremely important to understand kettlebells are lifted with the hamstrings, glutes and lower back.  They are never lifted using only the arms.  When utilizing these powerful muscles to lift, the bell will literally soar up as if it weighs nothing at all.

Kettlebells are a perfect tool for women and men alike looking to build muscle and burn fat. The various kettlebell exercises engage the entire body and combined in a circuit or bootcamp style class, the heart rate increases as calories are burned and fat is shed.

Proper Kettlebell Grip

October 19th, 2009

Grip it and rip it, so the saying goes. But let’s not get too hasty. Kettlebells are a great training medium, but if used improperly they can be both ineffective and dangerous.

One of the most common flaws I see in kettlebell lifters is their grips. A limp, weak, or open grip with a kicked-back wrist just doesn’t cut the mustard. You have to grip it like you mean it. Always keep a strong, firm wrist and grip the kettlebell so that it becomes an extension of your arm.

Examples of poor and proper kettlebell grips

So, whether you’re doing a kettlebell clean, a kettlebell snatch, or kettlebell press always remember your grip and the rest will follow.

KB’s and me

October 18th, 2009

Hey guys,

Looking to implement more KB work into my H.S programs.  I’m hoping this site could get me going and keep me on track with those plans. I enjoy adding them to my own training. I’ll get back later in the week to let you know if I got to it yet.

Looking forward to being a part of this – and all that I could bring away and even contribute to.

Seeya,
