“A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the … ” Renegade MMA Cert class in Little Rock Arkansas. With 180 horses pulling our subcompact chariot down the freeway stopping only thrice to feed them, speeding past the Waffle Houses (except for one) and the tall signs that read “Adult Books, Videos” at every truck stop we passed, we just couldn’t shake the lure of Graceland. Going into our 16thhour on the trail and Arkansas quickly (?) approaching Davies brought the horses to a halt in Memphis. Thirty minutes later, after five bucks to park, $40.00 for souvenirs and a peak at the Mansion that was… okay maybe it wasn’t but when people ask, we could always say we were there but had to leave because a Friday night Kettlebell class at Danny Dring’s Dojo in Little Rock Arkansas was soon to take place, preceding the inaugural Renegade MMA cert class weekend.
In that 1966 classic A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum, Paseudolus (Zero Mostel) says ”Be the first, start a fashion.” So with my son Danny along with his youthful enthusiasm jump-starting his Renegade training career, combined with the growing popularity of MMA armature and professional competitions, and the “dozens” of MMA training centers in our area we are looking forward to being involved with one of the fastest growing sports in America.
With their incredible combination of coaching skill and years of coaching experiences at the highest levels of their field, they both have earned the respect of their peers. John Davies and Danny Dring, two masters of their trade side by side all weekend long combining the two trades into one, and creating a Renegade “MMA Training Specialist Program.” It was an honor to be in attendance, this one was in a class by itself.
So as we “left the building” for the last time this past weekend the only words I could utter were, thank you, thank you, thank you very much. So with KB’s and X-vests packed in the trunk, a butterfly upfront, and Graceland a “been there done that” we sped past Memphis without blinking an eye, relying on a little “kashmir” and a lot of caffeine to “bring it on home.”
