Kettlebells and high school football training

January 28th, 2010

I’m happy to report it looks like the AD is going to purchase about a dozen KB’s for the FB team to use during it’s off-season training. I mentioned to the head FB coach the added benefits KB’s could bring to the program.  Added conditioning during our warm up including swings, snatch, and cleans while aiding in our quest for enhancing hip mobility by utilizing a variety of  lower body movements including elevated squats.  With 12 KB’s and 40 kids training three times a week, there should be no problem to keep the training moving without extending the training session. Another plus is that the schools other teams will have access to the KB’s. If you’re a high school athlete and would like to know how to best utilize your schools weight room, E-mail me at frank@athleticfx.net

Kettlebells and Graceland, a funny thing…

November 11th, 2009

“A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the … ” Renegade MMA Cert class in Little Rock Arkansas. With 180 horses pulling our subcompact chariot down the freeway stopping only thrice  to feed them, speeding past the Waffle Houses (except for one) and the tall signs that read “Adult Books, Videos”  at every truck stop we passed, we just couldn’t shake the lure of Graceland. Going into our 16thhour on the trail and Arkansas quickly (?) approaching Davies brought the horses to a halt in Memphis. Thirty minutes later, after five bucks to park, $40.00 for souvenirs and a peak at the Mansion that was… okay maybe it wasn’t but when people ask, we could always say we were there but had to leave because a Friday night Kettlebell class at Danny Dring’s Dojo in Little Rock Arkansas was soon to take place, preceding the inaugural Renegade MMA cert class weekend.

In that 1966 classic A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum, Paseudolus (Zero Mostel) says ”Be the first, start a fashion.”  So with my son Danny along with his youthful enthusiasm jump-starting his Renegade training career, combined with the growing popularity of MMA armature and professional competitions, and the “dozens” of MMA training centers in our area we are looking forward to being involved with one of the fastest growing sports in America.

With their incredible combination of coaching skill and years of coaching experiences at the highest levels of their field, they both have earned the respect of their peers. John Davies and Danny Dring, two masters of their trade side by side all weekend long combining the two trades into one, and creating a Renegade “MMA Training Specialist Program.”  It was an honor to be in attendance, this one was in a class by itself.

So as we “left the building” for the last time this past weekend the only words I could utter were, thank you, thank you, thank you very much. So with KB’s and X-vests packed in the trunk, a butterfly upfront, and Graceland a “been there done that” we sped past Memphis without blinking an eye, relying on a little “kashmir” and a lot of caffeine to “bring it on home.”

MMA fighter? Looking to incorporate kettlebells into your workout? Want to know how you can become a a stronger fighter, more powerful puncher, and quicker on your feet?

KB’s and me

October 18th, 2009

Hey guys,

Looking to implement more KB work into my H.S programs.  I’m hoping this site could get me going and keep me on track with those plans. I enjoy adding them to my own training. I’ll get back later in the week to let you know if I got to it yet.

Looking forward to being a part of this – and all that I could bring away and even contribute to.

Seeya,

Frank Lupiani
